Ed Hanley is a tabla player, composer, photographer, videographer and editor who likes to push boundaries. From the 1st to 31st March Hanley will be the resident artist at Arcadia Art Gallery, 680 Queens Quay West, Toronto, Canada. His plan is to create an album and film in those 31 days with the public interaction as a main ingredient.
Ed will record a short tabla composition everyday plus create a video. He has an activity menu to allow the public to choose how they can contributed and be part of the creative process: clap their hands, sing a note, play an instrument, shoot some photographs or video. Using all this raw material Ed will compose music and visuals.
Making an album and film in this restricted space and time will be an interesting experiment and experience. Ed Hanley is taking the Indian tabla into new creative territories. I am excited to watch the process, I want to get involved and be part of this tabla production.
